A datacenter is an industrial, high-security facility, built with one goal: to ensure that computer servers with digital applications always run, 365 days a year, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. For example, a malfunction in the datacenter could cause you to be unable to pay with your bank card for a while. Datacenters’ require monitoring of not only the server computers themselves but also critical assets like diesel generators, heating and ventilation systems (HVAC), uninterruptable power systems (UPS), fire detection and electrical distribution. In fact, active management of HVAC system is a key factor in reducing operating costs. To maintain the required high availability of these datacentres, timely response to serious reported failures is crucial. To minimise maintenance costs, a data driven long term predictive maintenance strategy are also required. Typically, datacenters are located across the country. In this paper, we present a case study in the development and deployment of a centralised software-based monitoring and maintenance strategy. This strategy has led to high availability and lower maintenance costs across all assets in the datacentre including the Servers, HVAC and diesel generators.
